Private Instruction

Chris offers instruction in jazz piano, composition, arranging, music theory, improvisation, specific styles, and music technology to qualified students of all ages.

The following guidelines apply to weekly beginning piano lessons: Students' repertoire consists of a variety of music including traditional piano literature (Baroque [Bach, Scarlatti], Classical [Mozart, Beethoven], Romantic [Schumann, Chopin] and Contemporary [Bartok, Copland]), contemporary popular music, folk music, jazz, leadsheets, and studies composed by the teacher.   I expect my students to be not only pianists but also musicians.   All students will compose, improvise, play by ear, analyze recorded music and record their own music.   Study of music theory will be an integral part of each lesson and students will complete occasional written theory/composition projects. Students are encouraged to spend time improvising, playing by ear, memorizing, sight reading, composing and exploring at the piano. (And we'll have fun.) There is no standard course of study. I will expose students to a variety of music but we will focus on the music that is the most exciting to the student. As a student progresses, she will be asked for more input regarding the repertoire she studies. Please contact me with any questions!    I welcome questions about repertoire, rate of progress, practicing, music theory, baseball, and anything else related to piano lessons or music in general.

Please contact Chris for more information.
